Boost Your Way To Better Search Engine Placement

By Robert Roy

Once your site is up and running what is the number ONE way to better search engine placement? It's developing content. Yes, honest, reliable content is what those search engine robots are looking for.

These robots are getting smarter everyday. Their algorithms are getting better every day. It is NOT worth your while to try to "beat" them to boost your way to better search engine placement. You need to stick to basics.
IF content is number one then number two is links to your site. These links are also called "back links" your way to better search engine placement also depends very much on this.

It is very important that these links have a common relevancy to your site. If your site is about orchids and gardening then you shouldn't have any links to a tax preparing site. This way you will be on your way to better search engine placement.

There are several ways to get links. One is to place a page on your site to allow webmasters to link exchange with you. You give them your link for their Web site and they give you theirs. This gives you a back link but a reciprocal one.

Another is to go to link farms, companies that will guarantee you a number of links from other sites for a fee. This is not a good option. You will be linked to sites that are not relevant to your site. This will diminish how the search engines view you and may even penalize your site.

The major search engines are now keying into not only relevancy but also their page rank. How high they rank with search engines.

There is one way to better search engine placement, get relevant links to your Web site. Put your keyword or keyword phrase into the search engines and see who are the top 20 - 25 sites that come up who also use your keyword.

First, you know that they have a lot a visitors and secondly they are good sites because of their rank. You should then email them and ask them if they would link to you and you to them. Try to be sure that they are not your direct competitor.

If they link with you the robots will give you a better score because of who they are. A simple, easy way to better search engine placement is dependant on the number of links and the quality of those links.

Site Build It? (SBI!) also has a great linking tool called "Value Exchange". All you need to do is to put in your keyword and it will match with other Web sites who use the same keyword. So at least you can get relevant sites linking to your Web site and you can pick and chose.

If you have the "Google Tool Bar" installed on your browser you can see for yourself how good the page quality of the Web site is. There is a bar on the "page rank" which will indicate where the Web site is ranked.

Back Links are very important way to get better search engine placement. Don't use link farms. Try to get back links from quality and high web visitor sites. You need to do this!

Internet business is a competitive arena but you can jump way ahead by
looking here first. This is your complete site to be successful in your online business.

A Crucial Key Factor To Your Online Success: Keywords Research

By Gian Luigi Ruggeri

Let's start from the basics.
Keywords research IS a crucial key factor nowadays for anyone that is already or want to be active in the online business and run a work at home based business.

Maybe back to the end of the 90's it was possible to think to work from home and start a new business oriented website targeted to a broad market and get to have it successful with a relative limited effort, a basic knowledge and an amateurial budget, simply putting a lot of passion in the work, but these times are gone, and it is very difficult that they will come back again.
Hoping that something similar will happen today is just an unreal expectation.

So we arrive to the subject of this article: Keyword Research.

If we make a search on the net to have a DEFINITION of this important concept we can easily find a usuful link like this:

http://marketingterms.com/dictionary/keyword_research/

In brief we can say that "keyword research" means the search of the keywords related to our website, AND the related ANALYSIS to find the most valuable keywords for our online business as well as the ANALYSIS of the COMPETITION for the same keywords.

Well, there is a lot to understand here, isn't it?
Prepare yourself, there is a lot more to do after we have clear the meaning of all this in our minds.

This definition in my opinion takes for granted that we are not building a general website that can show totally unrelated stuff messed up together trying to be interesting for anyone using a PC connected to the internet.

It is a quite technical definition that is addressed to people that already have some knowledge about how online business is going in year 2005, and that have already read, or been taught that it is recommended to build business websites targeted to NICHES, that are fractions, small parts, of a sector of an industry or of a market.

So this important concept can be summarised like this:

"When people wanting to run a home based business working from home start the planning of the building of a new website that is business oriented it is good practice to focus on a niche and to research keywords related to a niche instead of to a wide market in order to have to face a smaller competition and be able to generate value and a positive return on their investment".

Does it make sense? I think so, and so think most of the savvy online marketers and gurus nowadays.

Please note right now that keywords research is also crucial if you run PPC ADVERTISING, both for your own website or for AFFILIATE PROGRAMS that pay you commissions. We will return on this later in this article.

Now that we have understood the meaning and the importance of keywords research it's time to move to the practice.

How is it done the important task of keywords researching?

As experienced internet marketers we are able to provide you with a great SHORTCUT that has a small cost and will be able to save you a lot of time, efforts and also money, but we will provide you also some free resources if you really are on a zero budget and need to make some basic researches.

Here is the recommended resource for keywords research, it is a desktop program called "Keyword Locator" that has excellent features and will complete many tasks from a single software.

http://EarnWithGoogle.com/seo/keywordlocator.html

If you only use free resources you will need to use many of them in order to achieve similar results, or even to have done only a part of the tasks of Keyword Locator.

Let's see what you can do with free resources. The first site we suggest is NicheBot.com:

http://NicheBot.com

This site includes keyword count data from different sources, Overture and Wordtracker (only the first 15 results), and add also figures for number of pages for the researched keyword, competition and a ratio.
More detailed explanations are available on the site of course.

This website is probably the best free resource you can find as it already summarise data that normally would require you to use different websites to be reached.

Another popular free resource is GoodKeywords.com, that offers a free software to download that allows to do basic keywords researching and provide some other search features. You can go there to download the software for free:

http://GoodKeywords.com

And finally a set of free online tools you can use are offered by InstantPosition.com here:

http://instantposition.com/free_tools.cfm

InstantPosition.com is focused on SEO and provides many valid tools you will surely find interesting; amongst them you can find the keyword suggestion tool and the keyword popularity tool.

As you see we have been there with the free resources. Like everyone else we try to find online what can help us with the lower possible cost, and we all know that lower than free there is nothing.

But we also learned to profit of the experience of those who have been there before us and have developped better solutions and offer them for a small price. And sometimes the solutions developped are small gems that can become invaluable.

This is the case with Keyword Locator.
With this software you can do much more than you can do with all the different free resources put together, and of course much easily and quickly.

Keyword Locator is the professional solution to your needs.

In fact you can easily locate in demand niche markets and under exploited keywords in a matter of minutes.

You can complete keywords researching much faster and with less efforts, and pass to the phase of website building much sooner and with more detailed data on your hands.

And you can analyze and expose Your competition as you would not be able to do with only free resources.

All right, do you remember we told you that keyword research is very important also if you advertise in PPC like AdWords or Overture? Well this software is developped to minimise your expense and maximise your revenue from PPC advertising.

There are so many features we cannot report them all here in this article, so here there is again the link to this great software, the best one we have found for keyword researching:

http://EarnWithGoogle.com/seo/keywordlocator.html

We hope this article can be helpful for you and your work at home based business.

How to Grow Your Website with Search Engine Traffic!

By Matt Bacak

A well-designed website is the best method I can think of to generate a steady flow of new ezine subscribers. And new subscribers who join your ezine's list through your website tend to be of higher quality than those who find you through other means (ezine directories, announcement lists, etc.). One primary reason for this is that new subscribers that come through your website were quite possibly seeking out the type of information you offer, especially if they found you through a search engine.

Search engines and web directories (such as Yahoo! and LookSmart.com) are one of the best sources of targeted web site traffic. Recent changes in the functionality and submission process of several search engines and directories are detailed below.

The biggest change in the search engine landscape has been a move towards paid submissions by several services. While some may consider it a bad thing that services that were once free now charge for submission, it's actually an improvement in many ways. Most notably, the time it takes to get listed is usually drastically reduced with a paid service, meaning your site can start receiving traffic within days of submitting. And the potential traffic you can receive from the various search engines that use paid submissions usually far outweighs the cost. That's more than can be said for most other marketing efforts, which carry a much higher risk.

One of the biggest recent announcements of this kind is that search provider Inktomi has recently added a paid submission. For prices starting at $20, Inktomi guarantees they'll spider your Web site every 48 hours for a year. Inktomi search results are used by 125 partners, including HotBot, AOL, NBCi, MSN, and others.

Information on paid submissions to Inktomi is available at: http://www.positiontech.com. This service has just been released; as I find out more and test its effectiveness, I'll mention my findings here.

Yahoo! has for quite some time featured its "Business Express" option of paid submission. LookSmart.com recently moved to accepting only paid submissions, doing away with its free submission process altogether. However, if I were going to spend only $199 to market a Web site, I would spend it on a LookSmart submission. LookSmart's data is used by MSN, Excite, AltaVista, CNN.com, and others, and the results have been very good in my experience.

Four Weapons Of Mass Traffic

By Thomas Höfter

In this article I will show you that weapons of mass traffic are much easier to find than weapons of mass destruction. And after reading it you won't even have to search for them anymore as I will tell you exactly what they are and how to use them to help you promote your own web properties.

Please note however that those four methods presented here are just the ones that have returned the best results for me and my own websites at the least possible cost (which means, no cost at all). Of course there are many more promotion techniques around and their success does depend greatly on how you use them and for what kind of website so it might be clever to try as many different ones as you can find.

1. RSS Feeds

This one is a very easy promotion method that can still bring you very good results, depending on your content and how often you update it. The only thing you basically do is add your content to a RSS feed and then syndicate this feed on other big RSS lists and directories, which will then link directly to your content. Those sites will then update your listing automatically after you have added new content to your website (and your RSS feed) and "Pinged" them through a free service like the http://pingomatic.com/ program.

2. Link Exchanges

Link exchanges are mostly used for the purpose of search engine optimization and to gain a better Google Pagerank only but if you use them right they can bring very much traffic, too. And using them right just means using them with the right people at the right place. For example you don't want your link to be buried on a links page with hundreds of other links or on a page that is not read by anyone of your targeted audience. Instead, try to approach closely related websites to yours (but no competitors) and try to negotiate a fair deal with them.

3. Article Submission

You might notice that I am just using this technique because when I submit my articles to free article distribution websites like http://www.ezinearticles.com/ I can include some links to my own sites at the bottom of the article and therefore get one-way backlinks from everyone who publishes my article. Depending on the article's topic and how well it is written this might be several hundred different sites. You have to remember however that writing articles is hard work and does take some time however I can still recommend doing it.

4. Press Releases

A method that does rather require much work since you will have to learn how to write press releases for yourself (or you have to pay someone to do it). You do also need something newsworthy to write about, but after everything is done the hard work will surely pay off as this is a very effective method to gain new visitors. You basically get them by publishing your press release (that will of course contain several links to your website) on some of the free press release distribution sites like http://www.prweb.com/. After your press release got published there it will normally be read by hundreds of people and reprinted on many other sites. Sometimes, if your news is truly interesting, it might even be picked up by a newspaper or other print magazine and therefore drive thousands of new visitors to your pages. To improve the effect of your releases it might be wise to spend some money and make a contribution to PRweb because this will give you access to some special services like inclusion in Google News and file attachments.

How to Boost Your Website Traffic and Profits with Content!

By Hans Hasselfors

Are you aware of how vitally important and valuable CONTENT is to your online business? In fact, content can do more to build your business and profits than just about any other resource or service available.

Following is a list of 5 key ways that content can help build your website traffic, subscribers, and customers starting today!...

1. Boost your search engine ranking and daily visitor count by posting keyword rich articles and content on you r website. For example, if your business involves offering products and services related to internet marketing, posting internet marketing related articles and content will attract unlimited prospective customers on a regular basis!

2. Generate double or even triple the number of newsletter subscribers you do currently, simply by offering content in the form of "special reports" or manuals as bonuses for subscribing to your publication. People love freebies, so give them what they want and watch as your results increase!

3. Create an automated cashflow by using content to formulate multi-part email training courses with related website or affiliate links "sprinkled" throughout each course. Use an autoresponder service to automate the delivery of your training course (such as a 5 part training course delivered over a 5 day period).

Training courses can also serve as excellent bonus offers for your prospective newsletter subscribers.

4. One of the most impor tant keys to a successful online business is not JUST having a list of mailing list or newsletter subscribers... It's about building a trusting relationship with your subscribers (ie, "cultivating" your list)...

By sending informative articles (content) to your list on a regular basis you will establish yourself as an expert on your topic of business, as well as gain the trust of your subscribers over time. As a result, your subscribers will be EAGER to take advantage of your "paid" product and service offers. (Just make sure that you NEVER take advantage of the relationship you develop with your list by offering products or services of poor quality just to make a quick buck!)

If there is one "constant" in Internet marketing, it's this: A cultivated list of subscribers is as good as money in the bank. Write that down and never forget it!

5. Another excellent way to generate no cost website traffic is by submitting ready-made articles to "content hungry" website a nd newsletter publishers with your "resource box" attached. A resource box is nothing more than a little 3-6 line "bio" about you and/or your web-site - including a link to your site (or even instructions on how to subscribe to your newsletter)...

When submitting or offering your article(s) for reprint purposes, just make sure to specify that each article is to be reprinted "as is" with your resource box attached.

...Even one article can go a LONG way towards generating no cost website traffic and visitors for you. Just imagine your article being sent out to a newsletter subscriber base of 100,000 individuals - many of whom will be reading YOUR included resource box and clicking on your URL to learn more about what you have to offer!

Well there you have it, 5 sure ways to build your online business exponentially with the help of articles and content...

With the declining effectiveness of many of the online advertising methods that we've relied on in past y ears, content is only strengthening its position as the ultimate KEY to generating unlimited website traffic, subscribers, and customers!

Use Magazine Classified Ads to Build Internet Business

By John T Jones, Ph.D.

Use Print Ads to Bring Potential Customers to Your Internet Site

Print advertizing can be very profitable to Internet operators. Low-cost classified ads in targeted print magazines can drive folks to your site. Ads not targeted will prove to me fruitless.

One problem to Internet business operators is that ads must be tracked to determine the advertising dollar return. If a visitor comes to the site from a print ad, how do you track it? Well, the simplest way is to have your ad send them to a page (URL) used only for a specific ad. Place a counter on that page to see what traffic is generated by the ad. From this page, your customer can than move to your desired URL and message.

You may want to welcome the visitor to your tracking page with a request for his or her first name and e-mail address. That way, you will know which enquires place orders and those that can be contacted later by e-mail to persuade them to buy your product or service. A free gift or newsletter might intice them to leave their information. Just don't make it a requirement to move on to your sales pitch.

Some operators request more information than the first name and e-mail address. Is that a good idea? How do you feel about it? Remember that the visitor is there to find the information described in your print ad. He is not there for the Spanish Inquisition. With this in mind, you may not want to ask more than two or three questions.

One Advantage of Print Advertising That Directs Traffic to Your URL

Your URL can be an ad in itself. That is if it is named correctly. I have a dozen web sites. I’ve tried to give them descriptive names that make the URLs ads in themselves. For example, one of my sites is www.secret-cash.com.

Another is www.money-making-books.com.

Do you get the point?

These URLs are small ads in themselves. This allows me to use fewer words or just the URL to promote my business.

Forum Advertising: Getting the Most from Your Investment

By Travis Staut

As an interactive marketing professional and also a forum webmaster, I have come to the conclusion that many smaller online marketers - the
type that sponsor many forums - are prone to making a few key mistakes that wind up costing them sales. Quite often, this leads to a lost sponsor for the forum or other small web site as well.

If you're currently running a banner on a web site, or are considering the prospect, here are a few things to keep in mind:

Update your banner often.

If you've purchased a text ad, update that often as well. I can look at my site's banner click-through stats and tell you exactly which banners are brand new and which have been running for more than a couple of months. In the marketing world, we call it "wear-out" or "poster effect." Either way, it's caused by the simple fact that after your audience has seen your banner enough times, it blends into the scenery of the page and they no longer even notice it.

The good news is, it's easily corrected. Change your image. Change your color palette. Change the text. Change the animation. Any combination of the above are almost guaranteed to breathe new life - and click-throughs - to your sponsorship.

Participate!

As part of the sponsorship package, my forum offers the right to post specials, updates, coupon codes, sales, and group buys in the appropriate sponsor forums. I'm amazed at how few of our sponsors actually take advantage of them. A banner is great for getting your name out there, and for the "window-shopping" click-through. But it's the good deal that will send buyers your way, wallet in hand. If you simply email the banner and paypal the money every month and forget about it, chances are the forum's users are forgetting about you too.

Clicks aren't everything.

Here's another common and frustrating pitfall. In this pay-per-click world, it's all too easy to get caught up in the click-through stats when it may not be your best statistic to look at. You need to look at the impressions of your banner. Because, if done right, a banner does an excellent job at getting your name out there. It hammers it home to the people who see it hundreds, maybe even thousands, of times. Then, when they're ready to shop, you're top-of-mind and there's a good chance they're gonna type in your URL.

Notice what I just said: They'll TYPE IN your URL. That's right, people
who are actively shopping don't click banners, they visit the sites they can think of. Imagine you wanted to buy a book from Amazon, that you saw featured on a web site. Would you go back to that site and refresh the page until that banner came up, then click on it? Nope, you'd type www.amazon.com and be done with it. The click won't register for the site you're sponsoring, but the register still rings. So remember, clicks aren't everything.

Become a part of the Community

Of all our sponsors, the ones who are there day-in and day-out to give advice and answer technical questions are the most successful. People still want to buy from someone they like, even in this crazy Internet world where they've never actually met anyone.

In conclusion, if you want quality results, be a quality sponsor. The time you invest will pay off, and the banner you run WILL do its job.

How to Avoid Getting Rejected for Reciprocal Links

By Teve Torbes

Often, when someone is beginning a reciprocal link campaign, they have a lot of trouble getting people to link back to them. This article will show you some common pitfalls that cause people to refuse your link request.

First, check the PR ranking of your home page. This will often, for better or for worse, influence people’s decisions on whether or not to give you a reciprocal link. Try to make sure that your PR is as high as possible, and you might even want to delay your campaign until you can get a higher ranking. As this only happens every few months, this might not be a viable short term option.

Second, don’t stick your reciprocal links all on one page. You need to spread things out and properly organize them. Who wants a link on a thousand-link page that Google isn’t going to index anyway? People want a good, well organized link page. They want their links to show up next to similar links that have the same content. Only put about twenty to twenty five links on a page at max, and put the descriptive text up as well that people suggest.

Third, don’t hide the links. Put a link to your “main” links page on your home page, and have a well-organized site map that includes all of your link pages. People want to have their links on a page that will be indexed by Google, and they won’t reciprocate if you hide it from the search engines.

The Benefits of Article Submission Software - A Review of Article Submitter Pro

By Oyvind Hennum

Part 1

I had the privilege of beta testing Article Submitter Pro and I am very happy with it. Now I am using it regularly and it does save me a lot of work. It had a few starting difficulties but they have been sorted out and improved during the beta testing process.

Currently there are 95 sites in the semi automatic submission part, 46 sites in the manual submission part, that is sites you have to log in to, most of the form filling is still automatic. There are about 30 or so email announcement lists and you can add as many lists or groups as you want. In the next update which they just announced will come very soon, you will be able to add as many submission sites as you want. That means you can add your own favorite sites to submit to which are not listed in the submitter.

What I like the best, is that all the submission sites, lists and groups are at hand in one unit. There is no endless mouse clicking back and forth. The most time consuming part of using the submitter is learning how to use it and signing up for submission sites. To learn how to use it is not complicated though, the manual is easy to understand.

In the semi automatic submission part (currently 95 sites), you only need to check that the form is filled in correctly, and press submit. Then you go on to the next site. In the manual submission part, you need to order the submitter to fill in the fields so it takes a bit more time. But overall it saves a lot of tiring labour. When you have learned how to use it you should be able to do all the submissions (170) in 1-2 hours, depending on your own speed.

Everybody recognizes the value of incoming links, and article submission is a great way of increasing your link popularity and get more targeted visitors to your website.

I cannot brag about great results of incoming links yet, because it is too soon.

But I can tell you that it looks promising. I submitted an article to all the sites in the semi automatic submission section a couple of weeks back, and that has already about 60 links back.

I will update you with more results on my homepage as we go along. If you like to see, go to Google and do a search for "The dynamics of competitive mentality".

Many people are interested in comparing Article Submitter Pro and Article Announcer.

I have not used Article Announcer myself, so I can not really say how it works.

But I have asked someone who used it and they said it did not meet their expectations. The major complaint was that the submission process still involved a lot of cutting and pasting.

With Article Announcer everything is made in hardcopy, and sent by mail. You also have to pay shipping and handling charges on top of the purchase price.

Article Submitter Pro is instantly downloadable. The price of Article Announcer is 379$ and the price of Article Submitter Pro is 167$.

After beta testing and corresponding with the creators Ken Nadreau and Hubert Daul, I know that they are 100% committed to make Article Submitter Pro the best product possible.

There is an own discussion forum for the users of this software, and Ken and Hubert encourages everyone to come with wishes or ideas on how to expand the usability. All future updates are included.

Another major update soon to come is the (semi) auto submission of press releases.

Article Submitter Pro prevents spamming of article directories with the inbuilt Spam Preventer technology. This keeps track of which directories and sites one article is submitted to, and does not allow you to submit one article several times to the same directory or site.

You can always choose how many or how few sites or lists to submit to. You are always in control of how the submission form looks, and you have to press the submit button on each site.

The time that Article Submitter Pro saves me, I can use to create more high quality content for my web site and more interesting articles to submit.

Easiest Way To Build Web Site Traffic

By Robert Roy

Yes, the best and easiest way to build Web site traffic is to write articles. And save A lot of time submitting them.

It is through well written articles and keeping your visitor wanting to learn more that you will see more traffic on your Web site. More traffic means more profit for you.

There are many reasons why you need to write articles. Here are just a few.
1. It is easy to do. You can write articles based on your area of expertise or niche. Even if you are not an expert you can learn by surfing the Web. Reading a few articles on the subject will enhance your knowledge to allow you to write an article.

I feel that an article should be more than 400 words but leas than 1500. Unless it's a sales page you will tend to lose your audience with more than 1500 and not build Web site traffic.

2. You will get a pre-targeted audience. People who read your article are those who are interested in your target. Once they are interested, it doesn't take much to get them pre-sold, increase your Web site traffic. And then ka-ching - a sale.

3. Better links. One of the ways that search engines give a site higher rankings is based on the number of "back links". If those reading your articles are interested they will check out your Web site and bingo, you have another back link.

Links back to your site give more points to your rankings then those from your site to other Web sites.

4. Need a call for action. In most of your articles you need to let your readers know what you would like them to do. Either sign up for your e-zine, go to another page that will pre-sell them or purchase a product.
In most articles you will have a way to use a "resource box". This is where you will put your "call to action" as well as possibly a little bit about you the author. Here is my resource box for my orchid site articles.
"Sign up for tips in our monthly Orchid Newsletter and get your copy of "All About Orchids" e-book and your 10% Discount on an orchid.
http://www.orchids-plus-more.com/orchidaceae.html "

I find that the best way for me to write an article is to read 3 or 4 articles about orchids or internet business. Once I finish this I usually have a good idea about what I will write about. Possibly then read a few more articles on the topic and begin writing and watch the Web site traffic increase.

At times, some webmasters don't have the time to write. There are many free lance writers out there who will write articles for you and not charge a lot of money. Some examples are Elance and Rent A Coder.

Once you write an article I suggest that you submit it to article directories. These are some of the best places for "new visitors" to find out about you and what you are saying. Once you get it into the directories you will notice an increase in your Web site traffic.

What a wonderful surprise when I started doing this I noticed a 30% increase in traffic within the first week. It seems the more I submit the more traffic.

You do need to know that submitting to directories is tedious work and takes time. It was taking me about 6 hours to submit to about 40 directories.

Now it takes me about 11/2 hours.

Internet Business: Top 7 Tips To Promote Your Website

1) Pay-Per-Click

It is good to get traffic but it is even better to get sales. Pay-per-click advertising is a great way to pull targeted traffic. Could anything be better? In many cases, pay-per-SALE advertising is a better choice. With pay-per-clicks, you may or may not make sales.

With a pay-per-click program, there's very little or even NO risk. You only pay when you make sales. Affiliate programs and joint ventures are examples. Set up deals where you pay only for each sale.

2) Write articles

Writing Articles is an excellent way to promote your website. and best of all you can get recognize as a business expert.

This is very easy to do, for people that don't know how to write real good yet look at other articles to get good ideals (Don't steal them). After you write a article insert a link to your site and there you go.

If you don't know what to write. Just write what you know best. You must have some knowledge or experience in one domain. Don't you ?

You can submit your article to ezine or article directory like: http://www.articlecity.com

3) Exchange links

Exchanging links is one of the best method for getting web site traffic and ranking higher with search engine When you start a site you should exchange many as possable links with sites that are RELATED to YOUR site. Search Engine's robots are eager to find new links and fresh information.

4) Mailing List

Having a mailing list can bring wonders to a web site, not only will it help bring old visitors back , but they will send the newsletter to their friends (If they like it). This is like gold for you. The only real purpose for a consumer website is to capture leads and to sell products. By leads I mean e-mail addresses.

You want to build up a customer list and then you want to work it repeatedly. Send out a monthly e-zine that offers FREE valuable information and mentions similar products they may be interested in. They may see something that a friend of theirs will want to buy from you.

5. Search Engine Optimization

It is no secret that search engines are the number one traffic generating method for driving visitors to web sites. Search engines are very useful in helping people find the relevant information they seek on the Internet. The major search engines develop and maintain their own gigantic database of web sites that can be searched by a user typing in a keyword or keyword phrase in the search box.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of studying the search engines in an effort to determine how to get your web site to rank high on user searches. Depending on the statistical information reviewed, search engines account for over 80% of the visitor traffic to web sites.

6. Banner Advertising

Although many marketers already know about the pay-per-click search engines, very few are purchasing guaranteed banner click-thru's that are available on hundred's of sites.

Look for sites that cater to your target market and look for, or ask for, their advertising rates. Slowly but surely most of the sites that sold banner impressions are starting to offer performance advertising in the form of pay-per-click.

7. Free online forum.

The forum can be on any topic that they are most interested in. One forum can be about “Online Business”. Another forum can be about “ Joint Ventures”. When people join those forums, make sure that they need to come to your site first and log in from there, if they want to log on and post on the forum.

So here you have the " Top 7 Tips To Promote Your Website "

Good Fortune to You

How to Increase Web Traffic

By Deepak Kumar

This tutorial will help you increase your website traffic. Today website success depends on the steady flow of the web traffic to the website. You can easily achieve this by spending a lot of money in google adwords program. But if you don't have money or you don't want to spend money to increase the traffic to your web site, then you have to look towards the search engines. Search engines provides quality traffic to your web site if your website is good and listed in the search engines. Other options besides search engines are Web Directory and Discussion Board/Forums.

Driving traffic to your website by search engines

85% of Internet users find sites through search engines, so each search engine submission is your most cost effective form of marketing. So the significance of key words, meta-tags, keyword density and web content in web promotion is very important. Please read more about this at our tutorial "Webmaster's Guide" at http://www.roseindia.net/webpromotion/webpromotion.shtml. It explains how search engines find and rank web pages, with an emphasis on what webmasters can do to improve their search engine placement.

Increasing Web Traffic by submitting your site to Web Directories

People used the directories to find the find websites. Search engines also uses the directories to produce their search results. Web sites listed in the directories are easily ranks high in the search engines result. So the people who are trying to boost the traffic to their sites, should strongly consider the submission of their web sites to Web Directory. New Website Marketing Made Easy

By Jason A. Martin

Often new website owners ask me how to get traffic to their new creation. Some have been known to stare at their computer in an attempt to will visitors to the site. The truth is, the Internet is evolving every second of every day. And with that, it becomes more difficult to establish a viable presence—or does it? Follow these easy steps and carve your slice of the cyber pie.

Step One: Preparation

Before going out to proclaim the glory that is your website, first make sure it’s in tiptop shape. Was your website carefully and professionally constructed? That includes content copy. It’s vital that your copy (the text on your website) be written well, including a logical flow, clarity, good sentence structure, wise word choices and proper grammar/punctuation. Studies reveal the average Internet visitor is getting more sophisticated and expects features, such as proper language use (whether English or another language). Fail in this area and you’ll lose business. It’s that plain and simple.

Now that your copy is humming, how is your search engine optimization? Did you at least look into some basics? Search Engine Optimization is the act of making your website search engine friendly and more likely to appear under the keyword phrases appealing to your targeted audience. While it can be a complex process, the basics should include having your pages search engine friendly, containing some keywords to attract your target audience. Once these two components are satisfactory, you’re ready for the next step.

Step Two: Links

Your website needs links. Today, even a simple link exchange can be complicated. Many website owners don’t want to reciprocate links with a new website. So how can you advance if you can’t get links? Thankfully, there are
alternative solutions. When you’re first starting out, don’t spend too
much time trying to find websites willing to link with you. Instead, work on
establishing yourself first.

Today’s Internet world revolves around content. Website owners across the globe are just waiting for free content from people like you. So the best way to gain links to your website in bunches is by providing content to other websites—also known as “promotional articles.” These articles
offer other website owners something of value. The result? Your new website
receives many one-way links from other websites easily.

Naturally, your article needs to be written well to succeed. Simply throwing words down on paper doesn’t cut it. The better your article is written, the more it will appeal to website owners. In the end, you’ll glean more worldwide coverage, which is what you want. Not a writer? No problem. You can visit PromotionalArticles.com and have promotional articles professionally crafted for you. Simply slap your name on them and away you go. And even if you’ve written your own article, I strongly suggest using their editorial service. As every good writer knows, all writing should be professionally reviewed and polished by a savvy editor before publication.

Step Three: Promotional Articles & Repetition

If possible, you want to release a few promotional articles, at the very least. Timing is important. For example, if all you have is three articles currently, space their release. Don’t release them all at once. Promotional Articles can be fast acting. Yet, it really depends on the market the article is geared toward and how well it is written. I have seen my articles end up on other websites within hours of release.

Once released, the search engines will begin to pick up the fact your article is on other indexed websites. When this happens, your back links go up, which can continue for quite some time. Without a doubt, you’ll discover the process for releasing promotional article to the world quite simple. At my website, JasonAMartin.com, there is an article all about how to do this.

Step Four: Further Linking

Once you have allowed a little time to pass after step three, your website will begin to take hold. When it does, it’s time to seek solid links on other websites. Stick to websites that are either on the same topic or related. For example, if you owned a website that sold cheese, receiving a link from a website that sold motor oil wouldn’t be beneficial. However, receiving a link from a website about cheese or wine would.

As time permits, search for smaller websites in your field, then see if they sell advertising on their front page for a small fee. For example, one night I found a website, which was set up decently in the search engines and was on the same topic as one of my websites. The site offered a homepage text link for $2 per week. I not only received a nice link to help my search engine status, but a possibility for highly targeted traffic as well. The Internet is full of on-topic websites for you to locate for potential profitability.

That’s a Wrap

By following this plan, you can significantly increase the staying power of your website. It really isn’t that complicated when you do things properly. “Is there more?” you ask. Sure. For instance, you can purchase traffic
from trusted PPC sources. This and other techniques are discussed in various
articles, which are all available at JasonAMartin.com. Once you master the art of
opening a website properly, you’ll want to open up many more. Submit your
articles to ContentTycoon.com.

How To Manage Directory Submissions

By Mike Paolieri

'More than 80% of the traffic comes from the top ten search engines'.

You have probably read this statement many times and it's true at least for the majority of websites.

So how about web directories? Is submitting your site to them a waste of time?

Even if directories usually don't deliver a lot of traffic they contribute inbound links to your site increasing its link popularity a very important factor used by search engines to rank websites.

When someone queries a search engine using a keyword relevant to your site, higher is your site link popularity higher are its chances to come up near the top of the results.

Submitting your site to web directories will help you increase its visibility and attract more traffic from search engines.

However you need an overall strategy to successfully manage your directory submissions or you will only lose your time and energies.

Is your site ready?

You should never forget that directories don't exist to give away free links. Their purpose is to provide their visitors with good quality sites.

If you want some chances to get listed you need a well designed web site containing useful and original content or offering useful services.

Your site must also be complete without broken links or links to 'under construction' pages.

Other things that can cause a rejection of your submission are: too many ads (especially pop-ups and pop-unders), automatic redirections to another domain, having the same exact content of other sites (example: the 'self replicated' sites some companies provide to their affiliates).

Preparing your listing details

Open your favorite text editor and write down the following informations:

1) your web site URL.

2) your website Title. Some directories accept only the official site name as title, others allow some descriptive keywords, but in general stuffing a lot of keywords in your title is not acceptable.

Write 2-3 different titles in compliance with these different rules.

3) your website description. Write what your site is about in a couple of sentences. Avoid superlatives, exclamation marks, excessive hype and generally everything that makes your description sound like an ad.

Description should be written in third person. Avoid expressions like 'we offer', 'we are ...'.

4) a set of search keywords related to your site. Separate the keywords with commas, then write down the same set of keywords this time separated by spaces. Some directories require the first format, others the second one.

5) your full name and email address.

Once you have done save the document. By copying and pasting these informations into the submissions forms you will save time and avoid errors.

Or you can utilize Clipboard Magic. This free software allows you to save multiple rows of data and load them into the Windows Clipboard simply with a click of the mouse. It's really useful when you need to fill in many online forms with the same informations.

Finding web directories

The next step is finding directories where you can submit your site.

You can use top directories to find minor and specialized directories

DMOZ

Yahoo

Spend some time to determine how each directory is organized and find the most appropriate category for your site.

Submitting to the wrong category usually causes a rejection of your submission.

Compile a list of all directories where you have submitted your site indicating the date of your submission.

Verifying the results

Not all directories send you an email when your site is listed.

You should periodically visit your list of directories and make a search for your site title or url.
Flag all directories where you find your site.

If your site has not been listed after about 2 months from the date of your first submission you can try to submit it again. My advice is to not resubmit more frequently.

You can also contact the directory owner and ask about the status of your submission, but if you don't receive a reply, don't insist. There may be many reasons why a directory doesn't list your site, simply accept the fact that not all submissions are successful.

Submitting your site to web directories is an essential part of your website promotion strategy.
It's a time consuming task, but with the right planning you will be able to manage it successfully.

The Internet's New Secret Weapon for Getting Free Publicity

By George McKenzie

You probably don't even know about them. Few people do.

Even fewer people realize how many different ways you can use them to get free publicity, increase your search engine rankings, and make yourself a media celebrity in your field.

I'm talking about "news alerts."

Google offers Google News Alerts at www.news.google.com.Look in the column to the left of the page.

Yahoo has a similar service, as do a number of other web portals and news outlets.

News alerts are the Internet's new -- and one of its most powerful -- secrets weapons for attracting attention from radio, TV and newspaper reporters.

You can sign up for news alerts for free. Then you choose keywords related to your industry, and whenever those keywords show up in a news story--practically anywhere--you get an email notification and a link to the story..

News alerts allow you to identify and contact the journalist who did the story to suggest a follow up, offer another angle, etc. on the story they've already done.

You can even set up news alerts for a competitor's name. If
they're quoted in a story somewhere, you'll be notified by email. That gives you an opportunity to contact the reporter who wrote the story and position yourself as a future resource for similar pieces.

You can also set up your news alerts so that every time your name appears in the media, it sends you an email notification.

It’s a great way to find out when your news releases, tip
sheets, or articles have been published. This can be extremely valuable since people who print your stuff don’t always let you know they’re doing it.

Furthermore, when you find out that something by you or about you has been published, you can get copies or reprints to use in a multitude of ways to further establish
your credentials with the media.

For instance, you can print out stories you may want to include in your media kit, or even mail to journalists to

reassure them that your topic really IS newsworthy--and that you indeed ARE an expert in your field.

I got quite a giggle -- and a little bit of a shock -- when I set up a news alert for my own name recently.

I got an alert from Google a few days later telling me the name "George McKenzie" had appeared in a Scottish TV story.

When I clicked on the link, I found out it wasn't really
about me--it was about a Scottish lawyer named Sir George McKenzie, an advisor to King Charles the Second 300 years ago.

I won't give you the details here -- a little too gruesome for a family friendly article. But you can read it if you
choose by clicking on

http://www.publicitygoldmine.com/sirgeorge

News alerts are one of the Internet's most important developments for helping people get the attention of the media.

They're free, easy, versatile, valuable, and best of all--your competitors probably don't have a clue they exist.

Creating a Unique Title is The Third Step to Increase Internet Traffic and Deliver Results

By Leanne Hoagland-Smith

Step number three is really simple and one that is probably overlooked by many writers, myself included until recently. Steps one and two are finished. The topic is selected based upon demand and all key words have been dutifully research.

Some writers’ next action is to write the content and then to write the title. Other writers tend to write the title first and then focus all the content towards that title. Whatever your writing style, the title is extremely important as it “hooks” potential readers, but what about ‘potential visitors?”

Do you believe that you have found a terrific, exceptional title for your article? This title is “going to create incredible interest” or as some say it is a “Killer Headline.” I know I have had that belief. In reviewing my own earlier articles, I discovered that some of those “Killer titles” were really duds when it came to uniqueness within the Internet arena. I forgot WRITING HINT #3. The Internet is a vast resource of information where many people have had similar thoughts and have also shared them.

If I wanted to drive traffic to my site through article distribution as well as to track my marketing efforts through such activities, I needed to be able to quickly locate my article by typing in the exact title between open and closed quotation marks. For example one of my earlier titles was “Say It Ain’t So” which I still believe is a good title given the content. However, it is not a good title to drive traffic to my site because there were over 500,000 hits on this title. I was one of a half a million.

During these past five months, I have learned a lot and now one action I consistently take is to research my title. This intentional action ensures that at that time of article submission my title is one of a kind.

Of course a unique title is only one part of the equation. The other 4 steps that will follow in the following days will also help to improve the quality of your articles and thus increase the Internet traffic to your web site.

Increasing Link Popularity

By Karen Martin

Search engines are the gateway to the Internet; they are the first tool that potential customers use to find the products and services they need. This is why link popularity is so imperative. If the customers do not find your website, you have no possibilities of making any sales.

You're probably wondering what the blazes is popular about a link! Well, in a word - plenty! Link popularity refers to the ranking assigned to your website by the search engines, and it determines the ranking your page gets when keywords are entered into a search engine. So, you're probably wondering, how do I make my link popular?

Search engines are discretionary, giving status and ranking to sites that have links to their pages from related, quality sites. It's a simple formula, but a very important one. Google created the system, and now virtually all the most popular search engines employ it to rank your web pages in their indexes.

The more commonly used your keyword is, the harder it will be to achieve link popularity, but without achieving this
step, it is almost certain your site will never rank highly on any search engine. But don't be discouraged; there are tried and true ways of achieving link popularity using the most competitive keywords.

There are a few things you should be aware of. The first is that just linking up with a large number of other websites
will not achieve link popularity. In fact, it may have quite the opposite effect. This is particularly true when pertaining to websites that are nothing more than "link farms" - pages containing line after line of indiscriminate links. Search engines may aggressively discriminate against your website if you are associated with a link farm, so steer clear of them!

The next thing to bear in mind is the quality of the site you are linking to. Never link to a page you have
reservations about your visitors seeing. The last thing you want your website to appear as is indiscriminate and cheap. Linking to sites of poor quality will only lessen your link popularity, if not completely destroy it.

So let's get to what you need to do to achieve supreme link popularity and improve your rankings to stellar status on all the popular search engines.

The first step, and the fastest way to get your foot in the door, is to get a listing in a popular directory, such as Open Directory Project and Yahoo. If your site is business-related, you will want to be listed on Yahoo, and despite the fact that it will cost you around $300 a year, it will be money well spent. If your site is non-commercial, the listing will be free, but it will take time and follow-up to actually get it listed. Open Directory is gives you a free listing whether you are business-related or non-commercial, but be prepared to make a lot of follow-up inquiries before you see your site listed.

You are aiming to get listed in the highest level of
appropriate category, and this just takes some common sense. For example, if your company ships Alpaca wool from an Alpaca farm located in the middle of Nowhere, Tiny
State, do NOT submit your listing to "Retailers from Nowhere, Tiny State." BIG MISTAKE! All you have to do is look a little deeper - and submit your listing to the "Fine Alpaca Wool" category. You will not only associate yourself with culture and quality, but you will be listed in a national category.

The next step after you have attained directory listings is to locate other quality sites that will increase your link popularity. Try to find sites that are in some way related
to yours, so not only will your link popularity increase, but your customer base may also be expanded. You want to avoid your competitors and look for sites that are useful to your site's visitors. Let's look at the Alpaca Wool site example. Linking up to a site that sells knitting supplies would be helpful to your visitors, and the chances of the knitting supply site wanting to link up to your site are also greater. By linking to a related site that will be relevant to your website's traffic, you are increasing both of your site's business prospects - and both of your sites' link popularity.

Not all sites want to link to other sites, so you will have to do some research when you are looking for possible linking partners. Google is an excellent starting place for your search. Make sure you enter keywords that you think quality customers will also enter to find your own site. Remember, your criteria are quality, highly ranked, non-competing websites that have a links or resources page. Go to these sites and objectively assess them. Look at the
quality of the product, the graphics, and the ease of use. Then check out the other sites they are linked to, and determine if your own site would fit in with the crowd.

When you decide you have found a good prospect, you must set out to woo them. The first thing to do is to add a link on your own links page to their site. This is an essential first step; it shows good faith, and ups your chances significantly of their reciprocity. After you have added their link, you must contact the webmaster of their site. Since this is almost always done by email, you want to make sure it is immediately clear that your message is not junk mail. This requires that you tell them right off the bat that you have added a link to their page on your site. A hook like this almost always insures the reader will read
on.

Next, be sure to be flattering and let them know how much you appreciate their website. Make sure you emphasize that you have actually visited their site, and that their site is not just a random pick. Give them the address of your
links page, and ask them to check out the link for themselves. It's a good idea to mention that they will not only benefit from the increased traffic your website will
direct their way, but you will also increase their link popularity. Briefly, explain why link popularity is so essential, but do this in a sentence or two so you don't
sound like a professor! Finally, tell them you would greatly appreciate if they would reciprocally add a link on their own links page to your website.

Go through this process with as many appropriate sites as you can find, bearing in mind the criteria of quality and non-competitiveness. After you have emailed all relevant
sites, be sure to check these website frequently to see if they have added a link to your page. Give it about a month, and if no link appears, try another charming email. Then give it another month, and if your site is still absent from their links page, it's time to remove their link from your own links page. The only time you want to pursue a link further than this is if you believe a site is crucial to your link popularity and your business needs. Just remember to keep all your communications complimentary and cordial.

Then set up a schedule to check your ranking in search engines frequently to see if your link popularity has improved. This is not achievable in the blink of an eye. It will take some time and a good deal of work. There is no way around the labor-intensive quality of improving your
link popularity, which is why search engines regard it with such importance.

By the way - make sure you have a beautiful, streamlined site or you will never persuade anyone to link up to you. Be prepared to keep plugging away at this process, as long as it takes, until you achieve link popularity stardom!

Free Website Promotion Guide - Website Promotion Mistakes

By Alan Malik

When webmasters have created their final master piece, their next step is to promote, promote and promote. This is a vital step in survival of your website and will increase your sales and visitors.

Many webmasters, especially beginners, gets so excited and want to take major steps so that they can get hundreds of visitors next day. Sometimes they try to adopt many illegal ways to promote their website. This causes their website to be banned from major search engines and as well as it is disliked by many people. Conclusively this decreases your website reputation drastically.

Its cause is sometime a wrong advice or some people do these steps purposely to increase traffic without knowing its side effects. We will discuss here these website promotion mistakes and we would advice you to never use these techniques if possible.

Never Submit Your Website When Under construction:

It is always better to submit your website when it is fully functional. This leaves a real bad impression on directories or search engine, wherever you submit to. If your visitors see a under construction sign, many of them are not going to come again, especially if this sign stays for longer.

Do Not SPAM:

Spamming can be of different types. I would concentrate on email spamming now. Never force anyone, by sending them emails, to view your website or product, especially if they have not subscribed for that. There are many offers available on net that you can get thousands of emails list and use it for your advertising. Never trust them whatever they say. You are not going to gain anything; however, you could make more enemies and get your website banned sometimes.

Redirectors:

Many websites use redirectors or set their fresh rates too high. It really has a bad effect on search engine ranking. Try to avoid them as much as possible.

Avoid Wrong Methods Of Web page Optimization:

Many people still use those old methods to hide text by changing its color with back ground color so making it invisible to see. Do not also try to hide text with layers. This was good enough in 1995 when search engines were in their developing stages. Now they have got quite intelligent to overcome such techniques and give penalty to websites using such technique.

Don’t Create Doorway Pages:

Many search engine optimizers did reverse engineering and get lot of knowledge about search engine algorithms. They used this knowledge to create doorway pages or welcome pages or jump pages, which were used to get first 10 positions in search engines. These pages were very well optimized for search engines and ranked very well.

That is good if your website is very much dynamic and its pages are not well ranked by search engines. But how could spammers can stay away? Then every spammer used these techniques excessively and conclusively it became difficult for people to get relevant content. Search engines then realized this trend of increasing such vast amount of doorway pages and they penalize those websites now which use these techniques.
So I would recommend to never using this method to promote your website.

Don’t Involve in Link Making Schemes:

I would recommend you to increase your page rank but not by using unreliable link producing schemes. Search engines have become very choosy about which type of links a website is having.

So it is better to never involve in links farms, auto link exchange programs, site networks. Search engines penalize hardly those websites who try to artificially increase their incoming links or suddenly gain so many links in very small amount of time.

It is better to get links by legal ways. Get them from quality websites and try your best to inbound links only.

Keyword Frequency:

It is always advised that you should not stuff your web page only with key words, instead of using your primary keyword hundreds of times, pay your attention to contents. If you are really so concerned about your keywords then it is better to use different keywords at different places in your website.

Don’t Spend Your Time On Scrap:

Sometimes we may have seen websites showing guaranteed no. 1 position in search engines or submit your website to 1500 and plus search engines. They are lire mostly. Because there are only about 10 major search engines which receive about 95% of the internet traffic. All other search engines are smaller ones and get their primary results from major search engines.

It is a real wastage of time and money if you are going to use those schemes. Sometimes they also optimize your website in such way that it can even get banned, so be careful.

Don’t Buy Untargeted Traffic:

Many websites claim that they will send 10,000 visitors or so. What do you think, will that be targeted traffic and will that traffic change into your potential customers? Think carefully and then decide before choosing any such type of offer.

Create a Google Sitemap for Your Web Site

By Herman Drost

Google Sitemaps is a simple and fast way for your site to
be constantly indexed and updated by Google.

This article will discuss the benefits of implementing this new technology, who should use it, how it works and how to create a Google Sitemap for your web site.

Benefits of having a Google Site Map

1. Speeds up the discovery and addition of your web pages
in the Google index.

2. Enables Google to quickly find web pages that have been recently changed.

3. A method for your site to be listed and appear quickly in Google.

4. Helps Google to keep search content fresh, so people
have the most up to date information available.

Who should use Google Sitemaps?

All site owners can use Google sitemaps whether you have
one page or millions of pages, however it's mostly geared towards people that make frequent changes to their web pages.

Normally web pages on a large site will not all get indexed because the links are too deep within the site. By including all your pages in the Google Sitemap you have a better chance of them all being indexed as Google thrives on fresh content. According to Google, it won't increase
your site's rankings.

How does it work?

Google sitemaps are created using XML (Extensible Markup Language). This is a coding language similar to HTML(though a little more complex). It is often used these days in syndicated feeds or blogs.

Here is the sample XML code you would include for each page of your site:

<.url><.br><.loc>http://www.yoursite.com/<./loc>
<.lastmod>2005-07-15
<.changefreq>monthly<./changefreq>
<.priority>0.5<./priority>
<./url>

(remove periods for code to work)

Here is a breakdown of what each line represents:

location - name of your webpage ie http://www.yoursite.com

last modified - when you last modified the page.

change frequency - tells Google how often you modify that particular page, whether it's never, weekly, daily, hourly, monthly or yearly.

priority - sets the priority you want Google to place for that page on your site. You can prioritize your pages: 0.0 being the least, 1.0 being the highest, 0.5 is in the
middle.

This is only relative to your site. It will not affect your rankings. Certain pages on your site may have more significance than others because they are updated more often ie home page, articles page.

How to Create a Dynamic Google SiteMap XML File

It would take a long time to create your Google Sitemap by hand especially if you have a site that contains 1000s of pages.

Fortunately Google provides the Sitemap Generator that allows you to generate a sitemap very quickly. It's a Python script that creates a Sitemap for your site using the Sitemap Protocol. This script can create Sitemaps from URL lists, web server directories, or from access logs.

You can read more about it here:

https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login

Other Sitemap Generators.

Google has also compiled a list of third party generators.

Personally I use the free sitemap generator It's simple to use and quickly produces the necessary XML code for your site.

Here are the steps on how to create your Sitemap using this free Sitemap Generator:

1. Go to http://www.sitemapspal.com and enter your site's address.
2. Copy the code that it generates for your site and paste it into notepad.
3. Save the text file as sitemap.xml
4. Upload this file to the root directory (same place as your home page) of your web server.
5. Open up a Google Site Map account and submit
your site's address.
6. Every time you modify a page or pages, login to your
Google account and click on the resubmit button.
7. Repeat this procedure for all of your web sites.

Conclusion

Google is still the largest and most accessed search engine on Net. Each year millions of web sites get added to Google making your site harder to find. Creating a Google Sitemap will help your web pages stay fresh in Google's index.

Internet Directories to Improve Link Popularity

By Olivia Lambeth

Description: one way of jumpstarting you link campaign is to get directory links. Building links, by listing your website in the search engines and directories, is one way of increasing your link popularity, especially if yours is a new site or one with no inbound links. However, you should choose your directories and search engines well.

You can jumpstart your link campaign by getting directory links. Building links, by listing your website in the search engines and directories, is one way of increasing your link popularity, especially if yours is a new site or one with no inbound links. However, you should choose your directories and search engines well. But, the shortage of inbound links puts your site at a severe disadvantage because link analysis is an important part of every search engine's ranking algorithm.

So, you can overcome this disadvantage by getting a few quality links. And a good way to start is to get listed in as many directories as you can. There are many directories out there, and the more you can get into, the better. If you have a business related website, and it can’t be accepted by non-for-profit directories, then you should try submitting it into business directories and should be prepared to pay a small fee for it. A good strategy is to contact a site that doesn’t offer advertising or paid listing and offer a small amount of money in return for a link. Chances are that few will be willing to accept your link. A few that you should try and get your site listed in, are Open Directory (http://www.dmoz.org), Yahoo(http://www.yahoo.com), LookSmart (http://www.looksmart.com), Zeal (http://www.dmoz.org), Joeant (http://www.joeant.com) and Business.com (http://www.business.com), Discount-Search.com (http://www.discount-search.com) or any other business directory if you site doesn’t qualify for free submission.

And these directories and search engines are gold mines as linking partners, waiting and begging to be mined by an enterprising and prospecting webmaster. The most obvious Internet directory to start with, when beginning a comprehensive link search, is the well-known DMOZ directory. Its complete category and sub-category classification system makes it convenient for any website owner to find numerous sites within their area of business.

With DMOZ, there’s no need to contact them for link exchanges if you’re concerned about loss of visitor traffic to their sites. However, if you’re not listed in the DMOZ directory, you can still find the category where your site would probably be included. And the process remains the same for finding link partners, whether your site is listed or not.

Another directory that is good is The Yahoo! Directory which has many of the same sites in its list as DMOZ. This is inevitable. There are, however, many sites listed in Yahoo! that are not part of the Open Directory Project. And this fact opens up many more possibilities for the webmaster.

When you go to the Yahoo! Directory, you must first go to your category, if you’re already listed. But if you’re site is not listed, you should select the most probable one. However, keep in mind that the listings are in alphabetical order, and may not have the same descriptions as the DMOZ directory. Then, use the same procedure as before, and your list of potential linking partners will grow larger.

A third important Internet directory is the Google Directory. They use listings supplied by the Open Directory Project and the listings are very similar to those found in DMOZ. But, Google is different in that it orders the results from the highest PageRank listing to the lowest, making your sorting that much easier. Though, it should be remembered that some of the PageRanks on display are most probably out of date, and may not reflect the site's current PageRank.

But, if exchanges, for higher PageRank purposes are important to your site, then the Google directory is the answer to what you’re seeking. However, as a general rule, don't let PageRank determine your linking partners. It’s far more important to make your site helpful, for your visitors and customers.

And, since directories are an excellent source of theme related link partners for any website, you should use a major one for the search such as DMOZ, the Yahoo! Directory, or the Google Directory. So, finding potential linking partners is very easy when you use the major directories or search engines.

The Importance of Page Content

By Nigel Stephens

The Importance of Page Content

The content of a page is probably the most important consideration when building traffic to your web site. Other techniques do gain more traffic but page content and content of your web site in general is most important when producing a good quality site that will naturally build traffic.

1.1 General guidelines for a page
For a page to rank well with the search engines, the page should be optimized and have sufficient text that is of relevance to your visitor. Ideally the page will be written and presented to be easy to read. It will have a good use of white space and placing of text blocks and pictures (graphics).

The text you write should be warm and compelling. It should flow well so it is easy to read and be in short paragraphs so interest is easy to maintain.

The content you place on the page should be reflected by the page name, title, the H1 heading, description and meta tag keywords.
1.2 Page Content
As the number of pages on the web increases, it is becoming more difficult to achieve a high page ranking. There is much you can do and the most important consideration is the content on the page. Search engines are becoming more specialized at looking at the page as a whole and ranking the page on the basis if its content rather than just the title, meta tag keywords and the description. The text or copy on the page is now becoming the most important feature with the all the properties of the page being used to judge its ranking.

This is good from our point of view. Let me explain. If we are interested in creating a page that is relevant to our site visitor then the copy of the page will contain accurate and compelling information about its topic. The page will naturally rank higher than other less well constructed pages. If our pages are the best we can make them, when compared with much poorer pages, our pages will rapidly rise in ranking.

When a search engines refers a visitor to your page, they will record the time that they spend at your site (as long as the visitor clicks back to the search engine). This information is used to rank pages. If your visitor stays longer on your site compared with other sites, your page ranking will naturally improve.

So creating pages that are “sticky” will help ranking and in turn increase traffic to your site.

This is a short piece taken from my eBook on Web Site Traffic Building techniques. My eBook summarises the best techniques I have used over the last three years in creating successful commercial sites.

How To Gain Web Traffic Through 9 Simple Tips

By Leanne Hoagland-Smith

Driving traffic to your website can be a time consuming task. However, these easy tips may help you increase traffic and convert those visitors into actual customers.

1. Title on your main URL and secondary pages
Originally, my title was ADVANCED SYSTEMS-A Leadership & Organizational Training & Development Firm near Chicago, IL. If I searched for the first two words ADVANCED SYSTEMS using Overture at http://inventory.overture.com I found a little over 4,000 keyword searches. By using this tool, I entered various key words and discovered that the term education and training had over 210,000 searches during the previous month. Research also recommends that the title length not exceed 77 characters and so I continued researching the most effective key words to pair with my first two terms. Also, additional reading suggested that you indicate your location within this title. Even though the completed title may exceed the recommended length, this is OK because the search engines do read beyond 77 characters. Also, as you construct or revise each page, make sure that title has the appropriate key words. Currently, I am doing that for my site because as stated earlier ADVANCED SYSTEMS is not a popular searched term.

2. Content
Both my Internet marketing coach (www.leaders-perspective.com) and my marketing consultant (www.hodgecommunications.com) acknowledged that the content on my site of which I wrote was of exceptional editorial quality. Their praises made me feel very good. However, both told me that the content wouldn’t “sell an igloo to an Eskimo.” This wasn’t what I wanted to hear after spending hundreds of hours writing this exceptional content. Currently, I am revisiting each page and rewriting the content using a marketing content focus instead of editorial one. I had failed one of the basic lessons in marketing – write to the audience needs by identifying potential benefits not your expertise.

3. Search Words
Again using the mentioned site in tip #1, I began to rewrite the content and then checked key words and phrases to ensure that they were embedded within the content. Writing in Microsoft Word, the writer can go to the Edit button and scroll down to the Find icon. By typing in a specific word or phrase, this handy tool will check to see how many times it appears in the document. A note of caution – Be careful not to overload your content with search words because the robots are quite sophisticated and can distinguish this overload.

4. Call to Action
Within the content on each page should be a call to action. The visitor should be encouraged to sign up for a free newsletter or contact your office by phone or email. Also, you can provide links to other pages within your website such as “click to hear read more articles.”

5. Thematic Approach
Using a theme entices search engines to travel through all the pages within your site. The theme can be your unique selling proposition. Also, a thematic approach encourages your visitors to visit more than one or two pages.

6. Use of Pictures, Graphics and Flash
Pictures are far more effective than clip art. Remember to use a variety of genders and ethnicity because your Internet audience is diverse. Be careful with flash and other time consuming graphics as they may consume too much time to download. Many visitors leave sites if the site doesn’t download in a matter of seconds. Time is money not only for you, but your visitors as well.

7. Free Offers
Visitors like to receive free offers from ezine booklets to articles to recommendations on books and other sites. Entice your visitors with freebies and have them coming back for more.

8. Regular Updates
Sites need to be updated on a regular basis to encourage Search Engines to continually visit your site. A static site is not good for web traffic or building relationships with your visitors. Construct a plan to revisit your pages to provide new content for Search Engines. HINT: Remember to check Key Words as you update your pages.

9. Perfection and Under Construction
Since web sites should not be static, perfection is an ongoing experience. Don’t wait until the content is perfect. Load it and then watch your statistics. Under construction shouldn’t be forever, however prioritize those pages you wish to update first. If you need to add a page, do so and mark it as “Under Construction.” I currently have several new pages “Under Construction” and still have yet to revise all my pages. Working using a plan (see tip 8), I anticipate completing the entire site within the next 30 days. And then, revisit at least 2 pages each month to update the content.

These last two months have been an incredible learning experience for me as I continue to work on my site to expand traffic and therefore potential clients. For example, one of the most visible results has been a 300% increase on one of my revised pages (http://www.processspecialist.com/youth.htm). Even though the site is still has pages under construction, I know that following these 9 simple tips will continue to multiply traffic and eventually increase my client base.
